Dorset Earth Mysteries

· Myth or truth? Did Atlantis really exist? If so, why did it sink into the sea? Will its location ever be found or are treasure seekers wasting their time searching for it? Possibly it never existed or if it did, it is lost to us forever; another mystery of history.

· In 1795, young Daniel McGinnis spotted an unusual clearing under a tree on Oak Island in Nova Scotia. He excavated the site with a shovel. What he discovered was a real surprise to him and the world – layered wooden planks, mats made of coconut fiber and mysterious stone slabs that descended deep into the earth. The excavation is a flooding trap and it has thwarted the attempts of everyone who has tried to reach the pit’s bottom. Many believe that pirates buried their treasure in the pit, and then used the flood trap to prevent others from entering. Drill borings have detected scarps of parchment paper, wooden chests and cement vaulting. What is this flood trap and what lies at the bottom of the pit? Will we ever know or will the “money pit,” as it has been dubbed, always remain a mystery?

· On April 5, 1923, Lord Carnarvon, one of the men who discovered King Tut’s Tomb, died in the city of Aswan. At that precise moment, Cairo experienced a power blackout because of a lack of energy. The blackout lasted only five minutes, but power station employees never identified the cause. Were the death of Lord Carnarvon and the blackout a result of the Curse of Tutankhamen or were the events just a coincidence? Another mystery of history that will probably never be solved.
